For years, I believed rest was a reward—something earned after a long day of productivity. Hustle culture had me convinced that slowing down was indulgent, even lazy. But somewhere between burnout and breath-work, I changed my mind.
Rest isn’t a luxury. It’s a rhythm. It’s the pause between heartbeats, the silence that makes music possible. I used to fill every hour with tasks, thinking I was building something meaningful. But meaning doesn’t come from motion alone—it comes from presence.
This shift didn’t happen overnight. It crept in through quiet mornings, long walks without my phone, and the realization that my most inspired writing flowed not from pressure, but from peace. I began to see rest as a form of devotion—to self, to creativity, to life.
Now, I protect my rest like I protect my dreams. I schedule it. I honor it. I let it teach me. And in doing so, I’ve found a deeper well of energy, clarity, and compassion.
Changing my mind about rest changed my life. It taught me that slowing down isn’t stepping back—it’s stepping in.
